Cependant, l'article qui suit vise à vous faire découvrir un autre endroit privilégié pour observer nos amis à plumes : le Boisé multiressource Von Allmen situé à Saint-André-d'Argenteuil.
Pourquoi est-ce un endroit privilégié? Parce que c'est un boisé sillonné de 5,5 km de sentiers (en partie asphaltés) où, en août 2005, la municipalité de Saint-André-d'Argenteuil a commandé un rapport de la firme Horizon multiressource inc. qui a repéré plus de 55 espèces d'oiseaux différentes dans ce petit endroit paisible à fort potentiel ornithologique.

Cependant, comme il s'agit d'un endroit protégé ou le développement se fait en tout respect de la nature, il m'apparaîtrait tout à fait logique que si ces oiseaux étaient présents en 2005, la très grosse majorité doit encore l'être en 2011.

Où est situé le Boisé Von Allmen? Il est localisé à Saint-André-d'Argenteuil (à l'ouest de Montréal sur la rive-nord, tout près de Lachute) entre les secteurs de Carillon et de l'Îles-aux-Chats (hypothétiquement à 1h15 minutes en voiture de la station Berri-UQAM au centre-ville de Montréal) accessible par le route 344. Comment se rend-on au Boisé Von Allmen? À partir de Montréal, prenez l'autoroute 15 Nord, puis la sortie 35 pour l'autoroute 50 Ouest jusqu'à la sortie 258 pour rejoindre la 327 Sud en direction de Saint-André-d'Argenteuil. Arrivé à Saint-André-d'Argenteuil, continuez tout droit et vous tomberez automatiquement sur la route 344 (en direction de Carillon). Le stationnement du Boisé Multiressource Von Allmen se trouvera environ à 1 km après avoir croisé l'entrée du Lieu historique national du Canal-de-Carillon.
À partir de la région d'Ottawa-Gatineau, prenez l'autoroute 50 Est, puis la 148 Est, puis la 344 Est.
Y a-t-il des frais d'entrée? Non! Le stationnement et l'entrée sont gratuits.
Et si nous ne prenons pas les clichés que nous voulons? Eh bien! Puisque vous êtes probablement des ornithologues tenaces, pourquoi ne pas envisager une nuitée de camping rustique directement au boisé pour la somme de 10$ par jour (se renseigner auprès du Parc Carillon au 450 537-7272)? Sinon, la région a d'autres types d'hébergement que vous pouvez choisir selon votre convenance!

When I was hired by Tourisme Argenteuil five years ago, I had no clue about the potential our region has to the eyes of birdwatchers! In fact, Argenteuil is a peripheral region of both Montreal and Ottawa-Gatineau and offers tremendous "birding" opportunities!
However, this article is meant to make you discover another amazing place to observe our feathered friends : the Boisé multiressource Von Allmen, located in Saint-André-d'Argenteuil.
Why is it such a privileged location? Well, this forest is furrowed by 5,5km of trails (partially paved) where, in August 2005, the municipality of Saint-André-d'Argenteuil asked Horizon multiressource inc. a record of all the species of birds established in the boisé. 55 different species were found in this peaceful ornithological haven.
Here's the list of all the species found:
White-throated sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis)
Ruffed grouse (Bonasa umbellus)
Grey catbird (Dumetella carolinensis)
Small buzzard (Buteo platypterus)
Of course, the record is from 2005, therefore the list may be a bit out of date. However, it is a protected envrionment treated with respect for nature. It would be logical to me that, since they were established in that environment in 2005, most of them must still be there today, in 2011.
But what is the Boisé Von Allmen? (from the ornithological inventory report)
The Boisé multiressource Von Allmen in Saint-André-d'Argenteuil is being taken care of by the municipality for recreational and conservational purposes. Located between the Northern River and the Long-Sault road (344), this woodland of about 50 hectares (furrowed by more than 5,5 km of trails) contains very diversed habitats. In fact, while going through the different trails, users can observe a swamp, a marsh, several maple woodlands, a hemlock woodland and more. This variety of habitats within a small area increases considerably the ornithological potential of the site. The presence of the river is also a asset for people who want to observe species of aquatic of semi-aquatic birds.

Where is the Boisé Von Allmen? It is located in Saint-André-d'Argenteuil (west from Montreal on the northern shore, close to Lachute) between Carillon and the Îles-aux-Chats (around 1h15 minutes in car from Berri-UQAM metro station in Montreal). You can have access to it by the 344. Click here to see exactly where it is.
How can I get there? From Montreal, you simply have to reach highway 15 North, then you take the exit 35 to reach highway 50 West until you reach the exit 258 to get to the 327 South towards Saint-André-d'Argenteuil. Once you're there, keep on going straight until you reach the 344 (towards Carillon). The parking is about a kilometer after the National Historical Site of the "Canal-de-Carillon".
From Ottawa-Gatineau, take highway 50 East, then the 148 Est, then the 344 East. Once you can in front of bridge in Grenville, turn on your left-hand side.
How much does it cost to get in? Nothing! Everything is free!
What if one day is not enough? Well, since you're probably tenacious "birders", why don't you stay over for the night in the Boisé's rustic campground for only 10$? (For further information, please call Carillon Park at 450 537-7272) If you don't feel like camping, Argenteuil has other types of lodging you may want to try.

Le boisé multiressource Von Allmen à Saint-André-d’Argenteuil est aménagé par la municipalité pour des fins de récréation et de conservation des habitats fauniques. Situé entre la rivière du Nord et la route du Long-Sault (344), ce petit boisé d’environ 50 hectares (sillonné par plus de 5,5 km de sentiers) possède des habitats naturels très diversifiés. En effet, en circulant à l’intérieur des différents sentiers, les utilisateurs peuvent observer un marais, un marécage, une érablière argentée, une prucheraie, une érablière sucrière en plus de quelques friches. C’est ce rassemblement d’habitats différents au sein d’une superficie restreinte qui augmente considérablement le potentiel ornithologique du site. La présence de la rivière du Nord et de ses berges est également un atout majeur pour l’observation de plusieurs espèces d’oiseaux aquatiques ou semi-aquatiques.Comme nous désirons vous aider à planifier votre excursion, voici la carte des sentiers:
